What Our Customers Are Saying

Movers and Shakers All My Sons Moving & Storage is ready to move at a moment’s notice. By Monica Golden Charlotte is growing rapidly. And where residences and businesses are moving, people and their belongings need to be moved in. That’s where All My Sons Moving & Storage company comes in. The local moving service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with same-day/next-day service. “Although we now have 14 offices nationwide, we still do business as a small company. Each office is a stand-alone corporation, which lets us focus on our local customers,” says Chris Bournias, president of the company’s eastern region. “We’re proud of the fact that we’re local — homegrown — and we want to stay that way!” All My Sons Moving & Storage as originally owned by Chris’ brother-in-law’s father was a family-owned, one-truck moving business. In 1992, Bournias’ sister Vauna Peterson (now the company’s chief executive officer) and her husband decided to give the moving business a go, adding two trucks and steadily building the business. In October 1995, the first franchise office in Charlotte was opened. Within a few years, the business had grown from three trucks and one office to 82 trucks and 14 locations. “We have 15 trucks on order at all times — as fast as they can build them, we buy them,” Bournias says. “Because we use versatile, 26-foot International straight trucks, we don’t have the problems the larger commercial movers have. We can get in and out of tight parking lots such as apartment complexes or business parks.” Another strong selling point for All My Sons is the personal service that customers receive. “We have 350-400 full-time employees based on seasonal needs,” Bournias says. “The difference to our customers is that the same people they will see when they reach their destination. You’ll always get the same, courteous people in our office; our drivers have the same experienced crew from the beginning through the end of the move – Charlotte-based employees, who are careful and honest with customers’ possessions.” Licensed for both intra- and interstate moving, the company also is heavily insured through workman’s compensation, cargo and liability as well as storage insurance. “People expect any mover to have full insurance coverage, but that’s not always the case,” says Bournias. “Unfortunately, many people find that out after it’s too late, and their possessions have disappeared.” “I think the biggest surprise for customers is that we are so flexible,” continues Bournias. “[Since] All My Sons is a smaller company, it can respond to special requests and tight delivery time frames. Or, if a customer needs a pickup and doesn’t want to accept delivery until a later date, it’s no problem – something a larger commercial mover most likely couldn’t accommodate.” Having handled more than 20,000 moves since 1995, All My Sons has kept its 30,000-square-foot storage facility quite busy. “We find through our customer surveys that our local storage facility is a big plus if a closing gets delayed or some other problem occurs,” says Bournias. “But then we live and work by our customers’ schedules – they don’t have to live by ours.”
