Why Move To Washington, PA?

A burgeoning suburb of Pittsburgh, the city of Washington has its fair share of things to do, despite only homing around 16,000 in population. You’ll find a nice escape from the rich life of the city, a slower paced day-to-day, but still plenty of activities and natural wonders to explore. Let’s take a closer look at what Washington is known for.

Washington and Jefferson College

Named after the founding fathers, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, this private institution can be traced all the way back to the 1700’s, when it was split into competing schools just outside of Pittsburgh before merging into Washington and Jefferson College in 1865. W&J is one of the top-rated schools in the country. The Washington and Jefferson College Presidents compete in 26 different intercollegiate sports at the NCAA DIII level.

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum

Started in 1949, this museum has become one of the best things to do in Washington, PA. If you want to take a look into the past of public transportation, make sure to check out the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. This museum harbors some old trolley cars from the city railway systems ranging from old Pittsburgh cars to a trolley from Brazil. They even have operating trolleys to ride around, and Santa visits during the Christmas season for the children. Our Washington, PA, movers love taking a ride down memory lane at this staple of the community.

PONY League Baseball

This is our Pittsburgh local movers' favorite of the bunch. PONY League Baseball and Softball was founded in 1951 in an effort to “Protect Our Nation’s Youth” from the drug scare of the times, hence the acronym, P.O.N.Y. It is headquartered in Washington, PA. Today, it is a foundational organization for both boys and girls of the entire globe. Spanning from Europe all the way to Asia, a trip to the PONY world series has become a childhood dream for kids everywhere. Some of the most notable PONY League alumni are Hall of Fame baseball players Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn.
