Litchfield Park History

Phoenix local movers think that the history of Litchfield Park is one of the best things about it. The town of Litchfield Park is a unique city that has blossomed into the Litchfield Park known today. The first land claims for Litchfield Park were filed in 1910 by the Kriegbaum family. The original city of Litchfield Park spans 640 acres and was originally developed for citrus groves.

During the time of World War I, in 1916, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber company sent a man named Paul W. Litchfield to buy as much land as he could, which ended up being 16,000 acres, to grow Egyptian long staple cotton. The cotton would be used to reinforce the cars and truck tires being used in the war.

In 1920, Paul made Litchfield his home and founded Litchfield Ranch, which became the headquarters for the Southwest Cotton Company. The town of Litchfield Park was shortly founded in 1926, and in 1987, Litchfield Park was incorporated as a city.
