COVID-19 and Restaurants: Is It Safe to Go Out for a Bite Yet?

Our Orlando movers understand that you may be anxious to get out of the house and do the things you were once used to doing, so we want to tell you what to expect when going to restaurants during COVID-19.

For the past two months, local restaurants and bars have been forced to close their doors to the public. The spread of the coronavirus was more than anyone anticipated and with the best interests of the public in mind, the government issued stay at home orders for the entire country. Since restaurants and bars were not initially considered essential businesses, many hospitality workers were left without a job or pay. Thankfully, businesses are once again starting to reopen their doors.

Our Orlando movers understand that you may be anxious to get out of the house and do the things you were once used to doing, so we want to tell you what to expect if you plan on going to restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Can I Get COVID-19 from a Food Worker Handling My Food?

If you are ready to get back to your favorite restaurant for a bite to eat but are worried about going to restaurants during COVID-19, our residential movers in Orlando want you to know there is little to worry about. According to the CDC, “currently, there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with transmission of COVID-19.”1 This does not mean, though, that you are at absolutely no risk of getting sick. Since the coronavirus is one that is spread from person to person, the CDC recommends that if you are not feeling well, stay home until you are no longer a risk to others. If you are planning to go out to your favorite restaurant once they are open, be sure to wear a mask. Though you cannot eat through a mask, you can wear it as you are waiting to be seated, walking to your table, and waiting for your food to arrive.

Can COVID-19 Be Spread Through Food, Including Restaurant Take-Out or Pre-Packaged Food?

Though there is currently no evidence that the coronavirus can be spread through food, it is still a good idea to err on the side of caution. Coronaviruses are usually spread from person to person via respiratory droplets, but it does not hurt to wash your hands before preparing or eating food. Though the likelihood is very low, it is possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object, such as packaging. If you are going to restaurants during COVID-19, be sure to wash your hands before and after touching anything.

Make sure to use soap and water to wash your hands for 20 seconds or more. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth while out as well.
