Denver Movers Room by Room Packing Guide

Your possessions are valuable, so before your Denver movers arrive, make sure that you have done your due diligence and taken every precautionary measure to ensure that everything is packed properly. For starters, it’s important to note that many Denver packing companies advise against placing important family heirlooms or rare collector items on the moving truck. In any case, it’s wise to keep such items with you so that you can ensure their safety. With that in mind, here’s a room by room guide for packing for a move:

Room by Room Packing Guide

Living Room

If you can, consider having your goods packed professionally by your Denver moving company. Otherwise, pack as the All My Sons movers and packers do. Label each of your boxes. Have a fragile item? Transporting sensitive electronic equipment? Label your boxes “Fragile” on all visible surfaces of the box. If certain items must be kept upright, label which side ought to be up so that your Denver movers can protect your goods.

Bedroom

Pack well. Don’t pack haphazardly. Pad fragile items carefully using packing peanuts or bubble wrap. This will further protect your belongings from damage during the transportation process. Pack your bedding together in large cardboard moving boxes. To protect your mattress from damage, use a mattress packing bag. Label the contents of each box with the room that it belongs to. For instance, if you have children with their own rooms, don’t group their boxes together. Pack them individually so that the Denver movers of All My Sons can put them in the correct room when they unpack your belongings at your new home.

Bathroom

Following the same packing guidelines as all the other rules, be sure to pack your bathroom with a box of its own contents and label it accordingly. A rule of thumb is to grab your toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and any other important toiletries, and pack them in what will be your “essentials” box. This will be the box you will open on the first night upon arrival in your new home.

Kitchen

Anytime you prepare for a move, the kitchen is going to be the first room that you will need to go through. This is because it can be an extremely daunting task, requiring a tremendous amount of sorting, organizing and packing. One of the important rules of packing a kitchen for a move is to go through all your perishable items. Basically, you’ll want to cook and eat everything in sight that could spoil during the moving process.

Pots and pans should be packed in medium sized boxes and labeled. For your fragile and glass and dishware, pack them tightly in small, sturdy cardboard moving boxes. For added safety, wrap dishes in corrugated paper and secure them with bubble wrap.

Pack your appliances in medium cardboard moving boxes and secure them with bubble wrap and/or packing peanuts.

Home Office

Setting up a home office can be tricky. Dismantling it for a move is downright painful. To get your home office ready for a move, go through your important files and pack them on their own. It’s incredibly frustrating to get into your new home and have to dig through mountains of boxes to find documents. A little tip from our packers of All My Sons is to tape the cords to the item that they belong to before placing them in the moving box. This will keep you from having to find the right cord for your printer, monitors, pc, etc. Depending on the size of your home office, it may be wise to pack each appliance separately to avoid confusion.

Garage

To prepare your garage for a move, first determine whether there’s anything that you don’t need. The garage tends to be a place where things go in, only to never be seen or heard from again. Typically, the garage is organized enough so that it’s not too much of a burden to pack. If it isn’t, then you’ll want to take the time to clean and organize it, making a pile for, “things to sell/donate” and “things to keep.”

A pre-move garage sale is a great way to save on your budget for professional Denver movers and ensure that you get a fresh start in your new home. Don’t forget to set aside your toolbox just in case you need them to take apart any furniture or electronics in other rooms. However, if you’ve purchased All My Sons professional packing services, your Denver movers will take care of any disassembly and assembly for you.

Backyard Area

If you have any backyard or patio furniture to move, you’ll need to prep it before moving. Furniture that has been left outside in the elements can often be occupied with bugs and have accumulated dirt. Before packing and transporting outdoor furniture, give it a thorough cleaning. Denver moving companies aren’t keen on taking plants and trees in the moving truck either. You’ll have to make other arrangements for these products.

If you’re transporting a BBQ grill, be aware that any flammable and explosive materials cannot be legally transported by a moving company. So, propane tanks and charcoal will need to be disposed of before your movers arrive.
