Originally known as Wepawaug, the wonderful city of Milford in New Haven County is a small city with a big heart. This land was purchased from Ansantawae, the chief of the Paugusset Tribe and then the settlers in the area began building the town of Milford.
There is an ancient legend claiming that there is buried treasure on a small island off of Silver Sands Beach. Captain Kidd and other pirates were notorious for sailing and hiding along the coast of Connecticut.
Many notable historical figures visited our land in the early days. In fact, George Washington even dined and rested in Milford during the Revolutionary War. Our land was also a stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War.
