Tips For Cleaning Your New House

When you move to a new home, it’s important to make sure it is clean. You likely don’t know the people who lived in the house before you, so there’s no telling how clean they were or how much they cleaned the house before they moved in. Just because the house looks clean doesn’t mean that it is clean. Before you call Maryland movers to start loading your things, make a plan for how you are going to clean your new home when you move in.

Clean Before You Move

While it isn’t always possible, it’s very helpful if you are able to clean the house before you move in. This is for a couple of reasons. First of all, you are less likely to feel rushed if you aren’t trying to clean while people are moving your stuff into your home. Secondly, it’s simply easier to clean an empty house than it is to clean a house with boxes and people all over the place. You will be more likely to do a more thorough job and feel less stressed if you are able to clean beforehand.

Focus On The Kitchen And Bathrooms

The kitchen and the bathrooms are typically the rooms that should be focused on for most of the cleaning. In the kitchen, make sure that you clean all of the surfaces, including the counters, sink, and stove top. In addition, check how clean the appliances are before you start using them. If you’re lucky, the previous tenants cleaned the appliances before they left, meaning that it should only take a minute or two to wipe them down. If you aren’t so lucky, this can be a tough job, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to tackle the appliances if they need it. As far as the bathrooms, make sure you clean the toilet, shower, sink, and floor.

Cobwebs And Fixtures

Do a quick scan of the fixtures in your new home. If there are cobwebs, remove them with a duster. This is a simple step that will make your new home much cleaner.

Walls And Floors

The walls and floors can be very time consuming. If the previous owners had children, then check the walls and light switches for fingerprints and dirt. If they didn’t have children, then the walls may not be too much of a worry. As far as the floors go, check the condition of the carpets. It may be easiest to hire professional cleaners so you can know for sure that the carpets are completely cleaned, however this is not always possible. If the carpets were cleaned prior to the old owners leaving, then all you need to worry about is vacuuming. Sometimes vacuuming twice is a good idea to make sure you truly got everything out. Hard wood floors need to only be swept and mopped.

Once you have accomplished everything listed above, then your home should be move in ready. It’s important to do a walk through to make sure everything is taken care of, but you should be good to go. Once you have cleaned your house, the Maryland movers will be ready to move your belongings to your home.
