American Cancer Society Making Strides of Corpus Christi Walk

14 million cancer survivors are celebrating birthdays this year thanks in part to the American Cancer Society. Take part in the American Cancer Society Making Strides of Corpus Christi walk.

Massachusetts cancer survivor Margery Gould Rath wanted to create a way in which she could celebrate her fellow cancer survivors by raising funds for the American Cancer Society. Working with a committee of fellow survivors and other volunteers, Rath created a "move-along-a-thon" called Making Strides Against Cancer to bring people together in an event to further cancer research.  The first event was held in Boston and instantly became an annual city tradition after it attracted 200 participants.

In 1993, the event officially became known as the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Walks in Boston and New Hampshire attracted 4,000 participants and since then, Rath’s vision has inspired 8 million walkers to participate in Making Strides events in more than 270 communities across the country, raising more than $460 million to fight breast cancer. Rath remained a dedicated Making Strides volunteer until 2001, when she lost her battle with cancer.

With just a single step, you can help the fight in ending breast cancer. Join the millions of people from over 300 communities in the United States in taking that step and walk in the American Cancer Society’s non-competitive 5k event.

Current residents and those who are moving to Corpus Christi, can take part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in order to inspire and raise awareness within numerous communities nationwide.

Every MSABC walk help raise money to help the American Cancer Society fund breast cancer research, information and services, and access to mammograms for women who need them.
