All My Sons Moving

Cleaning and decluttering your home prior to a move could sound like a fairly simple thing to do, but that's about where the simplicity of it all ends—in other words, it is much easier said than done. You're getting ready for your move to Charlotte and need to figure out how to get rid of that excess stuff. Luckily, we've got a few pointers for you!

What to Keep

This is the most difficult task you may have: separating what you need and don't need—what you must have, what you love, and those items for which you may not care enough. When it gets down to your move to Charlotte, you need to declutter your home somehow, and so, it's time to buckle down and be objective! When you're done, you'll be ready to call up a residential mover in Charlotte and get going.

Go room-by-room, set aside areas, bins, and/or boxes for the belongings you absolutely must have and the items you love and can't live without, then set aside the same for the items you are ready to part with. When you find something you're on the fence about—you can't make a clear decision right then and there—think: “do I use this often?” and “is it replaceable/can I get another one?”

When answering those questions, if you come to the conclusion that the item is not used often, and it is replaceable, you should be able to get rid of it. If it's used often, you may not want to get rid of it. If it's not used often, but is not replaceable, ask yourself what the reason is that you own the item. If you don't have a very good reason, it may be time to get rid of it—perhaps sell it, donate it, or give it to a friend or family member.

Have a Garage Sale

It's time to sell some items. Selling some of your belongings will make the move a lot lighter, helping you to be rid of some items, while giving you a couple bucks in exchange!

Donate

You can always donate your items to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or a local charity. Plenty of organizations will take in just about anything you're ready to get rid of. You may even be able to donate to arts and theatre programs at your local schools or give them away to friends or family!
