A Few Fixes for Your Fixer-Upper

Moving to a new home is so exciting, but it is also a lot of work. Besides the packing, moving, and unpacking part, your new home may need some fixing up. Fix your flooring. Does your kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room have linoleum floors that you just hate? Lucky for you, there is a simple fix...because you can paint them! We recommend that you give them a good scrub down, let them dry, tape up your baseboards, and then prepare your paintbrushes. It may need several coats, but it will be worth it!

If your new carpet has deep indentations from previous furniture, did you know laying down some ice cubes and letting them melt can substantially reform the carpet? Give it a try before you go to ripping them up!

Make it like new. Spray paint can make tons of things in your home look new again. Take air vents, for instance. If your new home's vents look a little dingy, you can spray them down with some spray paint. Just unscrew the vents, give them a coat or two of paint, let them dry, and once you place them back on, they will look great.

Other things around your new home can also make it look older, like light switch plates. These can be replaced very inexpensively. Make sure you know what sizes you will need and go to a craft store and find picture frames that match your home's décor. You can even buy white ones and spray paint them to match.

In the bathroom, things like light fixtures and mirrors can make a big difference, and can usually be replaced pretty inexpensively. You can even add a frame to your existing mirror to cut costs. Upgrading little things like a towel rack or toilet paper holder will have a big impact too.

Space savers. If storage is your problem, then we have plenty of answers. Maybe your kitchen is cluttered? Use magazine racks or an old CD tower to organize your cupboards and pantry. You can also make good use of a shoe organizer in the kitchen by storing spices, snacks, or even water bottles in the cubbies. Just hang it on the back of your pantry door for easy access. If your laundry room has no place for an ironing board, you can use a pair of coat hooks and hang it from there.

Don't let a few outdated parts of your new home take the wind out of your sails! There are so many little things you can do to make a big difference, and you can do them cheaply! Once you make these changes, add your furniture, and hang curtains and artwork, your new St. Louis home will look like a million bucks!
