Time to Move the Bed

All My Sons Moving & Storage offers professional packing services to get everything you own, including the bed frame, safely secured for your move. Will you be moving the bed frame yourself? Follow this 5-step guide to packing the bedframe for a move.

Your bedroom contains a multitude of essential items that make a home feel happy and cozy. One of the most important furniture pieces you’ll be moving will be your bed frame. Without your bed frame, you’re left sleeping with just a blanket on a mattress. While that could do in a pinch, getting the bed frame safely moved can save your back and knees when it comes time to get up in the morning post-move.

Step 1: Remove Bedding, Mattress, and Box Spring

First thing, remove your sheets and linens and run them through the wash before packing them with your essentials. You’ll want to keep at least one set of sheets with the items you unpack first at your new home.

Take the mattress off the bed and put it in a mattress bag to protect it during the move. You can find a mattress bag wherever moving supplies are sold. The box spring can also be put into a mattress bag to protect it during transit.

Empty any drawers or compartments housed in the bed frame.

Step 2: Disassemble the Frame

Refer to your original assembly instructions for your bed frame. If you no longer have the original booklet that came with your bed spring, you may be able to find assembly instructions on your bed frame manufacturer’s website.

Typically, you will begin by removing the hardware pieces holding the headboard and footboard in place. Set aside the headboard and footboard, and see if the main frame can disassemble safely as well.

Step 3: Save Hardware and Small Pieces in Plastic Bags

Put any hardware pieces that come out of your bed frame such as screws or bolts into a small plastic bag. Label the bag with a black permanent marker and either keep it with other furniture hardware pieces or tape the bag to the headboard or footboard.

If any small pieces of your bed frame can fit in one of your medium to large essential bedroom boxes, then wrap the piece in packing paper or bubble wrap and place it toward the bottom of your essential bedroom items box.

Step 4: Wrap Large Pieces in Furniture Blankets

Wrap the large pieces of your bed frame like the headboard and the footboard in furniture blankets to protect them from scuffs and scratches during the moving process. Tape the furniture pads into place to keep them from falling off your bed frame pieces.

Then, transport your bed frame pieces upright with your mattress.

Step 5: Transport Bed Frame with Essential Furniture

Your bed will be one of the most important items to get set up again at the new home, so transport the bed frame with all your essential furniture pieces.

When you arrive at your new bedroom, have your movers position the bed frame pieces where you want the bed and assemble the bed as soon as possible. Once the bed frame is assembled, the mattress is out of the bag, and the bed is made, your new place can start to feel like home again from your very first night.

Sweet Dreams at the New Home

Now that your bed has been safely moved, you can enjoy sweet dreams at your new home. Rest well, you’ve had a hard day of moving.
