Packing Up Picture Frames

All My Sons Moving & Storage provides professional packing services to get everything you own, including your picture frames, safely secured for your next local or long-distance move. Will you be packing the picture frames yourself?

Follow these 5 steps to packing your picture frames so that your photos, mirrors, and prized paintings can grace the walls of your next home in great condition.

Step 1: Select the Ideal Boxes for Picture Frames

Small picture frames can be packed together in a small to medium moving box.

Many retailers who sell packing supplies will carry mirror and picture frame boxes, which are perfect for transporting your medium to large pieces.

If you do not have a box that can comfortably accommodate your larger picture frames, you can take a large piece of cardboard and cut it to fit the large picture frame inside.

Step 2: Prepare Picture Frames for Packing

If your picture frames have a glass face then take some painter’s tape (which is just strong enough to stick to your glass without leaving any residue when removed) and tape an ‘X’ over the surface of the glass. This helps reinforce the glass so that is does not break during transit. In the event the glass does break, the tape keeps the pieces from scattering. The same can be done on mirror surfaces.

If you have corner protectors for your picture frames, place them on the four corners of the picture frame after you have taped the glass.

Wrap your picture frame in bubble wrap or packing paper, and then tape the bundle closed.

Step 3: Place Picture Frames in Boxes

Lay some packing material like bubble wrap or packing paper into the bottom of your box. This helps cushion the picture frame in the event that it gets jostled.

If you are packing multiple small picture frames in a single moving box, be sure to pack them vertically. Check the weight of your box before you seal it to make sure it can be lifted.

Step 4: Fill Empty Space in the Box

Any leftover space in your box should be filled with packing material like bubble wrap, packing paper, or packing peanuts to prevent items from shifting during transit. This extra cushioning in your box keeps items still even when your box gets bumped.

Step 5: Seal and Label Your Picture Frame Boxes

Seal your picture frame boxes and label them as fragile. Use a black permanent marker and label what each box contains in as much detail as possible so you don’t forget which box housed which treasured picture.

Always transport large picture frames vertically, on their edge. Picture frames laid flat are more likely to break. If you need to, draw an arrow on your box to remind you and your movers to always hold the box upright.

Decorate Your New Home With Love

With all the picture frames packed well for the move, you’ll be able to decorate the walls of your new home to your heart’s content. Unpack your artwork and other fragile decorations with great care, and make your space your own.
