Get the Candles Moved to Your New Home

All My Sons Moving & Storage offers packing services to get everything you own, including your collection of beautiful candles, secured for your local or long-distance move. Will you be packing your candles yourself? Follow these 5 steps to ensure your candles arrive safely at your destination.

Ah, the scent of sweet, soothing essential oils and the warm glow of a tiny fire light. Candles can make any room in your home feel like a cozy haven. If you are a candle lover, you might accumulate a whole collection of wonderful candles. They’ll make a bright addition to your new home, but first you have to make sure they all get there.

Candle-loving mover beware, candles might melt in the back of a hot moving truck or while stored in a non-temperature controlled storage unit. Be mindful of the outside temperature when you are packing your candles. If your move is long and the outside weather is especially hot, then it might be best to take your favorite candles with you in your own vehicle.

As you should before every more, declutter and downsize your candle collection prior to packing. Gift unburned candles you are not going to use to family or friends, or donate them to a local thrift store. The remaining candles in your collection you will pack and take to your new home.

Step 1: Choose an Appropriate Box

Candles can add up in weight very quickly. Make sure to pack them in small moving boxes and ensure you can easily lift the box when fully packed.

Your local candle store might have some candle crates they are willing to give out if you ask nicely. Call or visit your favorite candle store and ask permission to take some candle crates for your move.

Step 2: Line the Bottom of the Box With Packing Material

If you are packing in a small box, line the bottom of your box with packing material like packing paper, bubble wrap, or soft items you are moving like towels or clothes. This helps to cushion your candles in case your small moving box gets jostled or bumped during your move.

Step 3: Individually Wrap Each Candle

Sort your candles by size, shape, and type. Group candles of the same shape and size in a box together. Larger, heavier candles should go toward the bottoms of your boxes and smaller, lighter candles can go toward the top.

Take some packing paper, bubble wrap, or soft household items like towels or clothes and wrap your candles individually. Keep in mind that if you are using soft household items to wrap your candles that they do run the risk of getting ruined if your candles should melt. If you are careful though, they might just come away smelling better than ever.

Step 4: Separate Candles With Cardboard

If you are not already using a candle crate, then you might want to separate your layers of candles with cardboard to help keep the candles secure. This helps prevent one layer of candles from crushing into the next layer of candles.

You can also pack candles into individual cells or boxes and then pack those boxes into a small moving box.

Fill any extra space in your box with packing material. This cuts down on the places for the contents to shift during transit.

Step 5: Seal and Label Your Boxes

Check the weight of your candle box to ensure you can lift it easily. If the box is too heavy to lift, then repack it. Overloaded boxes are a recipe for damaged items and injuries to movers.

When your box is comfortably packed, then seal your box and label it with a black permanent marker. Be sure to write “FRAGILE” on the box to remind you and your movers to be careful with the box.

Candles to Brighten Your New Home

Now that your candles are packed for your new home, you can feel confident putting them on the moving truck if the weather is fairly mild. If the temperature is high and your move is long then you can transport your candles in your own vehicle to keep them safe from the heat. Happy candle burning!
