Lascassas is quite literally located in middle Tenessee. In 1834 it was determined that the center of the state was located on Old Lascassas Pike. Local residents nicknamed the area “The dimple of the Universe” and raised an obelisk to mark the spot.

Historic Lascassas was named for Bartolome De Las Casas a missionary who sailed with Columbus. He was known as the “Apostle of the Indians” for his close relationship with local native peoples and his efforts on their behalf.

In the 20^th century Lascassas has become a quaint rural community where folks know their neighbors names. From the 1930’s until 2006 friends and neighbors would gather at the coal-fired heating stove at Ben Brown’s grocery store to share gossip. In the 1950s Rufus Jarman, a local native, became a reporter with the New York Times and a regular on the Arthur Godfrey show. His reporting of local events led Lascassas to become even more popular than nearby Murfreesboro, the county seat.

Today Lascassas retains its small town culture. Many families have called Lascassas home for generations, attending the traditional 4^th of July parade and the popular monthly Fish Fry. Yet newcomers are welcome to share in our little slice of heaven.
