Why Moving in the Summer Can be More Expensive

Put that summertime beach vacay on hold; you have to save up for your summertime move.

Trade in those flip-flops for sneakers, because summertime moving might cost you. Sunny skies and long days—summer moving has its fair share of benefits. If you’re wondering why moving costs seem to get as expensive as the summer sun is hot, there are multiple reasons for this.

Before your move to Richmond, discover why it’s more expensive to move in the summer. It might make you switch your move to a new house to a week at a beach house, instead.

1. Leases

Leases are a huge factor in the staggering moving costs of summer moving. Most landlords plan for the beginning and the ending of a place’s lease to occur in the summer, due to the increased amount of college students moving in. For this reason, there are increased numbers of residents moving in and out of an area--increased activity equals increased costs.

2. Weather

Though some people shy away from moving in the heat of summer, most people prefer it to the cold of winter. Nobody wants to move to Richmond during a snowstorm. Do you prefer being hot or cold? Pick your poison. Unfortunately for your moving costs, summer moving is greatly preferred to winter moving.

3. Kids

Making your move in the summer also coincides with summer break. That’s why leagues of families choose to move during the summer. Otherwise, kids would be stacked high with makeup homework, and their parents would be left trying to help them figure out those terrible math problems.

4. Peak Season

Not to mention, the real estate is at its peak during the summer months. Not only will moving during this time be more expensive, but buying property will cost you more, as well. With so many potential buyers on the market, housing prices increase and moving costs increase with them. If you choose to move in the summer, be aware that the market will be crowded and plan ahead for purchasing a home and securing your move.

5. Less Availability

This costly chain of events finally ends in the price of movers during summer moving time. Moving companies are getting phone call after phone call during these months, so their prices may go up as their availability plummets. Before your move to Richmond, hire a company way in advance so you won’t have to worry about not being able to move on your desired day or going broke trying to pay for your move.

You shouldn’t have to break the bank to move in the summer. Keep these factors in mind while planning your moving costs, and most importantly—plan ahead. If you must join them, beat them!
