The City of Eagan
This Minneapolis suburb was named after Patrick Eagan, the first chairman of the town’s board of supervisors. He owned a farm when Eagan was an Irish farming community. In fact, the city was named “Onion Capital of the United States”. The farmland was turned into the picturesque rolling hills and natural scenery that you see today. Eagan has grown to accommodate its increasing population and business presence. Many businesses are stationed in the area, and a lot of residents commute to neighboring cities.
Things to Do in Eagan
Lebanon Hills Regional Park
As the largest park in Dakota County, Lebanon Hills Regional Park is almost 2,000 acres of trails and lakes. Outdoor activities like running, hiking, and biking are extremely popular in the area. During the summer, be sure to enjoy a day in the sun at the beach area. Lebanon Park is located in the metro area, but once you’re in the beautiful scenery, you will feel like you left the city.
Canterbury Park Racetrack & Card Club
Canterbury Park’s horse racing and card games are perfect for sports fanatics. With several amenities, this is one of the greatest racetracks in America. Live horse racing takes place from May to August. Attendees watch the race from the 300,000 square foot worth of different levels of seating. If you visit, be sure to take advantage of the bars and eateries and the newly renovated Card Casino.
Mall of America
This shopping center is unlike any other, with 520 stores, 50 restaurants, and more than 400 free events each year. The shopping is incredible, but the entertainment will leave you speechless.
