Important Places to Notify About Your Move

In the weeks leading up to your move to The Woodlands, you’re likely running around like a chicken with your head cut off to get everything in order. You may have relocation tasks to complete such as booking a Texas moving company to help you move, making any final payments on the new home, tidying up the old home, and so on. But at the top of your moving checklist are places where you need to update your address. Not doing so can increase the chance of delays in mail delivery and service activations. The Woodlands movers of All My Sons Moving & Storage list some of the important places to notify about your move to The Woodlands.

Your Local Post Office

This is a no-brainer: your local post office should be the first place to update your address. About two weeks before moving day, give your local post office a visit to fill out a “change of address” form or visit the United States Postal Service website[1] to do so online. By doing this, you’ll have mail forwarded to the new address for up to 12 months, giving you ample time to change your address with other organizations.

Notify Your Employer

You most likely have your checks direct-deposited into your checking account, but you still need to add your employer to the list of people to notify of change of address. Your employer has important documents you may need in the near future such as paystubs and tax forms and they’ll need a new address on file to send them.

Utility Companies

Utility companies are also important places to notify about your move to The Woodlands. The last thing you want is to arrive at the new home with no water, gas, or electricity active, so get started contacting the appropriate utility companies before the big day. First, schedule a service cancellation for the old residence to ensure you won’t incur extra charges after you move out. Then, schedule a service activation for the new home to ensure all utilities will be active when you move in.

Friends & Family

Of all important places to notify about your move, you can forget important people, the ol’ gang. Let those close to you know about your upcoming move in advance by sending them your new address. How else will they be able to get to your housewarming or send you important items?
