Who to Notify Before You Move to Hilton Head

After long deliberation, you’ve decided to move to Hilton Head – whether it be for personal or work-related reasons. You’re most likely going through a moving checklist of tasks to complete such as booking South Carolina movers to lend you a hand, making final payments on the new home, scheduling installation of a new home security system, and so on. At the top of the list should be changing your current address with various places of importance. Our Hilton Head movers of All My Sons Moving & Storage can go into further detail about who to notify before you move to Hilton Head.

The Local Post Office

This should be a no-brainer given that this is the very place where you receive mail. About a week or two before your moving day, head over to your local post office to fill out a “change of address” form in person or visit the United States Postal service website1 to update your address from home. By changing your address in advance, mail will be forwarded to the new home for up to 12 months, allowing you the time to update your address with other places of importance.

Social Security Administration

Still don’t know who to notify before you move to Hilton Head? If you receive benefits or letters from the SSA, call them at (800)772-1213 or go online to change your address through your “my Social Security” account.

Utility Companies

Next up on your moving change of address checklist should be relevant utility companies. No one wants to arrive at a new home and not have water, gas, nor electricity active. So, contact the appropriate utility companies about a week or two before moving day to schedule a service activation. Once you’ve done so, move on to scheduling a service cancellation for the old address to avoid additional charges after you move out.

Current Employer

Sure, you may receive your paychecks via direct deposit, however, you still need to notify your employer of your upcoming move to Hilton Head. You still need a delivery method to receive pay stubs, tax forms, and other documents for other services and your records.

Friends & Family

Don’t forget to let the ol’ gang in on your upcoming move. Your loved ones will need the updated address to plug into their GPS systems or for their records to send you gifts and other important items.
