The Essential Cleveland Packing Checklist

The Essential Cleveland Packing Checklist

At All My Sons Moving & Storage, we’ve helped families and individuals in the Cleveland area make their moves for many years, and we’re here to help you, too! Before you get overwhelmed or stressed out, follow this packing checklist created by your local Cleveland movers!

Pack One Room at a Time

Packing one room at a time will help keep you and your family organized. It makes unpacking so much easier if you don’t mix items from different rooms. You will be able to unload each box to its corresponding room in your new house.

Label Fragile Items

If contents are breakable, labeling fragile items is so important. Whether you hire a moving company or not, you want to be sure your belongings are safe. Reminding yourself, family or your movers that items are fragile will save you a lot of hassle. Be sure to refrain from noting anything valuable on the outside of the box.

Pack Clothes and Linens in Suitcases

Use suitcases when it comes to packing clothes and linens. Clothes are bulky and you don’t want to waste money on packing supplies when you may have perfectly good suitcases already at home.

Basic Tool Kit

Don’t forget your tool kit! This will be very necessary when you are disassembling and reassembling furniture.

Purchase Boxes

You can buy boxes at your local grocery and office-supply store or they can be purchased from your local Cleveland movers. It is important to buy boxes of all shapes and sizes. Buy big boxes for the smaller, lighter items and buy smaller boxes for heavier belongings. When purchasing boxes, you should also purchase permanent markers, tape and box cutters.

Protective Materials

This is one of the most important steps in the packing process. The last thing you want when moving is to have damaged belongings. Take precaution and purchase extra protective materials. You will never have too much! It’s best to purchase these packing products from your helpful Cleveland movers. It may also be smart to wrap small items in brightly colored tissue paper that get lost easily.

Notepad

Having a notepad will help keep you organized.  You can make lists, take notes and write directions.

Pack a First Night Box

These items will be everything that you need on the last morning in your old house and the first night in your new house. It’s usually best to keep these boxes separate from the rest of the boxes, so you can have easy access to them on moving day. Some items that belong in a first night box include: bed linens, clothes for each family member, basic tools, light bulbs, medicine, toiletries, towels, disposable kitchen essentials and toys for children and pets. You should also keep your jewelry, valuables and important paperwork in these boxes to ensure that they are safe.
