Time to Move Your Outside Setup

The professional packers at All My Sons Moving & Storage have the skills and resources to get everything you own, including the delicate patio furniture, safely secured for the move. Will you be moving the patio furniture yourself? Follow this 5-step guide to packing up that furniture for the move.

Your outdoor setup is a great space to host company, read a favorite novel in the sunshine, or spend time together as a family. Patio furniture comes in all kinds of material with varying degrees of durability, but you’d hate to see any of it damaged during the move. Put those sun umbrellas down and get ready to pack the patio furniture.

Step 1: Clean Patio Furniture

Before you pack patio furniture for moving or long-term storage, you should give everything a good scrub down. If you have the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning your patio furniture, you should follow them for best results. Otherwise, clean patio furniture according to the material.

For wood patio furniture, wash with a gentle damp towel and apply a protective sealant. Plastic patio furniture can be hosed down with soap and water. Metal patio furniture should be cleared of rust.

Ensure that all items are dry before you begin to pack them.

Step 2: Disassemble into Base Components

If your patio furniture items will safely disassemble, then take them apart. Remove any screws or other hardware pieces and put them in a labeled plastic bag that you will either tape to one of your larger patio furniture items or keep with the other hardware pieces for your disassembled furniture.

Step 3: Wrap Furniture Pieces in Moving Blankets

Take the large pieces of your patio furniture and wrap them in quilted moving blankets or furniture pads. Tape the edges shut around your furniture so that the pads are secure. This will help protect your furniture pieces from scratches and scuffs during the moving process.

Step 4: Put Cushions and Pillows in Boxes

If your patio furniture comes with cushions and pillows, then put those pieces to the side when you disassemble the furniture. Once your items are wrapped in moving blankets, return to the cushions and pillows. Vacuum or wash the pillows and cushions according to the material. Once the cushions are clean and completely dry, place them in moving boxes. You might be able to pack them with other outdoor items.

Step 5: Seal and Label Boxes

Finally, seal and label any boxes you have packed your patio furniture items into. In lieu of a full moving inventory, always label your boxes with as much detail as possible so you never lose track of an item.

Ready to Host the Next Barbeque

Once the patio furniture is unloaded at the new home and set up to your liking, you can celebrate by throwing a house-warming barbeque or gather everyone around the fire pit for s'mores on a cool night. Enjoy the outdoors at your new home.
