Time to Pack Your Child’s Crib

The experts who provide professional packing services at All My Sons Moving & Storage advise on the best ways to pack up a crib for your next family move.

When you’re moving with kids in the mix, especially when you have infants or toddlers, you need to pack and plan with their attentive care in mind. One of the items you need to remember to have ready and waiting for them at your new home is the crib. Whether you’re packing a heavy wooden setup or a simple and quick portable crib, here are some steps you should take to ensure your baby makes naptime at the new home.

Step 1: Disassemble the Crib into Base Components

If you kept your owner’s manual for your crib, now would be a great time to break it out and give it a read. There might be instructions in it on how to assemble and disassemble the crib. If your crib did not come with any kind of owner’s manual, you might be able to look up the manufacturer’s website to see if they have videos or blogs related to assembly and disassembly.

Get out your tools. You will likely need screwdrivers or an Allen wrench to take hardware pieces out of the crib body. Remove any protruding pieces like mobiles or decorative knobs.

Step 2: Bag and Label Hardware Pieces

Set the large components aside for the moment and gather all fasteners and hardware pieces. Place these screws and bolts into a small sealable plastic bag. Label the bag clearly and either tape the bag to one of the larger pieces of the crib or keep it with other labeled bags of hardware.

Step 3: Wrap Crib Pieces in Furniture Pads

If you have a large wooden crib, it is probably best to wrap the pieces in furniture pads to protect them from scuffs and scratches during transit. You can also wrap crib pieces in plastic wrap, packing paper, or bubble wrap depending on their size and shape.

Put the crib’s mattress in a crib mattress bag to protect it during the transition.

Step 4: Label All Boxes

If your crib pieces are small and light enough to pack into cardboard boxes, then place the pieces into boxes and fill any extra space in the boxes with packing material like packing paper or packing peanuts.

Clearly label your boxes containing the crib pieces with as much detail as possible.

Step 5: Transport Crib With Children’s Essentials

The crib might need to go with your children’s essentials, or the items you will pack last at your previous home and unload first thing when you reach your destination. If you pack the crib where it is easily loaded and unloaded again, you’ll be able to set the crib up almost immediately upon moving in.

Naptime at the New Home for Baby

Now that the crib is ready to go, you’ll be able to settle junior down for a nap after the moving chaos of the morning. Sweet dreams for the little one.
