Scheduling Furniture Donation Pick-Ups When Moving

Moving out of your home is a great time to consolidate your household items. From getting rid of things as small as clothing to giving away some of your larger furniture pieces, decluttering before moving day can come with plenty of benefits. The less stuff you have to move, the less money you’ll have to spend on packing supplies and other moving expenses. Also, a space with less clutter can be better for your mental health – something you probably want to experience at your new home!

So, if you have decided to leave behind some of your furniture, you’ll need to find a place to put them. Best case scenario, you have a friend or family member who’ll happily take your furniture out of your hands. Sometimes no one you know needs the furniture you are offering. In that case, donating that furniture to a thrift store or charity shop is a good option. Here’s how to donate furniture and schedule a free pick up.

Sort Through Your Household Items First

When you are choosing the items you’ll be donating, you’ve got to sort out any items that are in bad condition. Furniture that is very worn down or damaged will not likely be accepted by thrift stores looking for donations. Its better to throw these furniture pieces out. Know your local garbage collector’s bulk trash pickup dates, so you know when to place that furniture at the curb.

Find a Thrift Store That Offers Free Pick-Up

Once you’ve trashed worn out furniture and identified which pieces you want to donate, you need to find thrift stores near you that will accept furniture donations and offer free pick-up. Salvation Army is a non-profit organization that offers free pick-ups with thrift stores and donation stores found nationwide.

Other thrift stores and non-profits in Tulsa, OK that offer donation furniture pick-ups:

• Making Room for You, Inc.

• AMVETS Pickups

• Sharehouse

• DonationTown

Schedule a Furniture Donation Pick-Up as Early as Possible

Make sure to give yourself enough time before moving day for researching and scheduling a pickup. If you have your own vehicle and its big enough to transport furniture, consider delivering the furniture to a donation center yourself. If you don’t have the car or time to do that, call your preferred thrift store to schedule a pick-up date. Take note, some thrift stores only offer furniture donation pick ups during normal hours during the work week and not on weekends. Adjust your schedule accordingly.
