How Much Should You Tip Your Movers?

If you hired professional movers, whether or not you opted for moving labor only or a full-service package complete with packing services in South Raleigh, you probably want to know if you should be tipping movers. If so, how much should you tip movers? Our South Raleigh movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage have created this guide to tell you what you need to know about tipping movers.

Do You Have to Tip Movers?

It is not required to tip movers, so if you feel that you did not receive good service, do not feel compelled to do so. Tipping movers is usually a gesture of appreciation for a job well done. If your movers go out of their way to accommodate you, you should tip accordingly. It is important to note that you should be tipping movers doing the actual heavy lifting. If you were not happy with the service you received from the moving company, but the movers themselves did a great job, tip them well and tip them directly.

How Much Should I Be Tipping Movers?

The general rule of thumb for tipping movers is to tip 5-10% of the total cost of the move. That 5-10% is then divided between the movers. The amount you tip when moving to South Carolina should be dependent on how long the movers take and how difficult the move was. Did you have stairs? Were there any awkward pieces that took time and expertise to move? Did the movers offer assistance with something that was not included in your moving package? These are the things you should consider when coming up with a tip amount. If the service you received was amazing and went beyond what you expected, you can tip about 10%.

When Should I Tip Movers?

Our residential movers in South Raleigh agree that a good mover should be on time, treat your things with respect and be organized. If something is missing or damaged, they should provide a way for you to retrieve that item. They should take ownership for anything that goes missing or gets broken. Nothing should be broken or damaged when it arrives at your new place, but accidents happen. If your movers do not appear to make an effort to find a solution, that’s what you should use to determine whether to tip movers or not.

What to Do Instead of Tipping Movers

Whether or not you are going to be tipping movers, you should have cold beverages available for them. You should always have water available, but you can have some coffee or soft drinks too, if you want. If the move is going to take awhile and will go through lunch and/or dinner, you should provide some pizza, sandwiches or anything that is quick and easy to eat. If your move is short and not over any meal times, it is always nice to have snacks available.

Our local South Raleigh movers will always provide excellent service because they are dedicated, but they will never expect or request a tip. Contact us today for your free no-obligation quote to get started on your next move.
