How to Paint Pumpkins Instead of Carving Them

Carving a pumpkin is one of the oldest Halloween traditions there is, next to getting dressed up. This year Halloween may be looking a little different but that doesn’t mean you can’t get in the spirit! Painting a pumpkin can be a fun event for the whole family to enjoy, while pumpkin carving can be dangerous to small children.  If you do not want to carve a pumpkin this year, though, you can always paint one! Our Rhode Island movers have some pumpkin painting ideas they’re sure you’ll love.

How to Paint a Pumpkin

There are a couple of different ways to paint pumpkins, depending on how you want it to look and the type of paint you want to use. These pumpkin painting ideas will satisfy any creative outlet you and your family may have, to create unique looking pumpkins you can use to decorate the inside or outside of your home. These painted ideas work best with little pumpkins but can also be used on larger gourds as well!

Patterned Pumpkins

Some people like the traditional Jack-O-Lantern look on their pumpkins during Halloween, with black triangular eyes and a jagged grin, but if you are wanting to paint your pumpkin in a way that will last all Fall long and not just for Halloween, try a patterned look.

Simply dip your little pumpkin into a bowl of paint, either halfway, or paint all the way up to the stem. Then, take a complementary color and create a pattern over your base color. You can either do polka dots, thin vertical lines, or wide horizontal lines. There are lots of patterns to choose from.

Dipped Pumpkins

On the list of pumpkin painting ideas, dipped pumpkins are the easiest. There is little that needs to be done to get your mini pumpkins to look perfect; just hold them by the stem and gently dunk them in a bowl of paint. Choose to either dip the bottoms so only half the pumpkin is painted, dip the sides in two different colors, or even just dunk the whole pumpkin! Using matte colors will give your painted pumpkins a dull finish and darker colors will add the perfect fall feel.

Painted Pumpkins

As mentioned, our Rhode Island local movers know that Fall is not complete without at least one Jack-O-Lantern. You can also opt to decorate your pumpkins in traditional Halloween fashion with face paintings or spooky images. Use black paint to create a scary or silly face on your pumpkin or white paint to draw a series of ghosts. Feel free to get creative with your pumpkin painting ideas!
