History of North Richland Hills

The city of North Richland Hills is home to over 70,000 residents and is located just nine miles from Fort Worth, Texas. North Richland Hills offers a suburban home feel with access to city amenities. As depicted by our North Richland Hills movers, the town’s rich history laid the foundation for its central location and growing population.

The history of North Richland Hills began long before the area was named North Richland Hills. In 1848, a land grant allowed 600 families to move onto the land to settle. One year later, Tarrant County was established, and the families farmed and ranched the land for the next 100 years. In 1950, Clarence Jones subdivided his 268-acre farm into a residential area and coined the name “North Richland Hills.”

On April 25, 1953, the Jones farm was officially incorporated alongside 500 residents. The area began to grow rapidly. In 1960, the population was 8,662 and grew to 45,895 in 1990. During the 1980s, the workforce included a broad range of industries, from computers to mattresses. The city continued to build in parallel with the growing population. Over the years, the city built a municipal complex, city hall, and public library. The City Council and city employees introduced the motto “City of Choice to Live, Work & Play,” This phrase was brought to life when Evel Knievel jumped over 11 Mack Trucks at Green Valley Raceway in 1974!

Today, North Richland Hills is the third-largest city in Tarrant County, one of DFW’s safest cities, and home to over 1,200 businesses and 30 major employers. This DFW Metroplex location provides access to the DFW Airport, downtown Fort Worth, and miles of hiking trails. With a livability rating of 93, the suburb offers families and singles a great place to live.
