Why Columbus is Great for Recent College Graduates

Unless you’re a president looking for a swing state, or you don’t live in Ohio, you probably don’t pay very much attention to Columbus. Not that it’s a bad city, it’s actually far from it, but it never really makes the news unless it’s election season. The thing is, it’s a wonder how Columbus isn’t on the news all the time for being so great. It has been rated as one of the most intelligent cities in the world. Yes, you read that correct, in the world. If that doesn’t do it for the run of the mill intellectual, how about the fact that more than 10% of the population has a graduate degree. On top of being one of the most intelligent cities in the world and high population of educated people, Columbus also has an extraordinarily low unemployment rate. Whether you are the type of person that just graduated college and are looking for a job, or you are the type of person that wants to live in an educated community, Columbus is the place for you.

According to Intelligent Community Forum, Columbus, Ohio has been one of the seven most intelligent cities in the world for the past two years. These cities represent the, “best practices in broadband deployment and use, workforce development, innovation, digital inclusion and advocacy that offer lessons to regions, cities, towns and villages around the world.  They are charting new paths to lasting prosperity for their citizens, businesses and institutions,” according to ICF. Does it get any better than that?

The actual percentage of the population that has a graduate degree is 11.5%, with 22.4% of the population having a bachelor’s degree. That is a large percentage of people for a time when going to college is so exorbitantly expensive. Bloomberg Businessweek actually named it as one of the best cities for new college graduates. The ninth best city to be exact. If you just graduated college and are looking for a stimulating place to settle down and start your career, you have found the perfect place.

And for all of those college intellectuals that are looking for a career, Columbus really is the best. The unemployment rate is 4.8% which is a good bit lower that the national average. There are multiple Fortune 500 companies in the city, which give recent college graduates the opportunity to start a career with ease.

All in all, if you are a college student that is anxious about what the future holds for you, take control of your future and make your dreams come true. Living in Columbus gives you the ability to live out your dreams while still living in an educated community that will help expand your social and professional network.
