How to Start Voter Registration Process

Before you register to vote in Denver, you need to have a valid Colorado driver's license or state issued ID card from the Colorado Department of Revenue. With either of these forms of identification, you can register to vote online. If you do not have a driver's license or state ID or if you prefer to register to vote in person, you can do so at any of the following physical locations:

- The Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle office when you apply for a driver's license

- Offices that provide public assistance

- Recruitment offices of the armed forces of the United States

- Voter Service and Polling Center

- Any federal, state or local government office1

Acceptable Forms of Identification

- Voters must have one of the following acceptable forms of identification in Colorado that shows proof of residence in the state:

- Colorado drivers license or valid identification card issued by Colorado Department of Revenue

- A valid US Passport

- A valid pilot's license issued by the federal aviation administration or other authorized agency of the U.S

- A valid U.S military card with photograph

- A copy of current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or another government document that shows the name and address. (Must be within the last 60 days.)

- A valid Medicare or Medicaid card issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

- A certified copy of U.S. birth certificate

- Certified documentation of naturalization

- A valid employee identification card with a photograph of the eligible elector issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. government or of Colorado, or by any county, municipality, board, authority, or other political subdivision of Colorado.

- A valid student identification card with a photograph

- A valid veteran identification card by the U.S department of veteran's affairs or veterans' health administration with a photograph

- A valid identification card issued by a federally recognized tribal government certifying tribal membership2

Important Information

In order to register to vote in Denver, you must submit your application 22 days before the election you want to vote in to be eligible to vote. You may not have more than one residence at the same time and once you establish a residence, it exists until you change the address to a new one.1
