Qualifications to Vote

• Must be a citizen of the United States

• Must live in the county where you are registering for at least 30 days (South Charlotte is part of Mecklenburg County)

• Must not be serving a sentence for a felony, nor can you be on probation or parole

• Must be at least 18 years old. (You may register up to two years before your 18th birthday in South Charlotte. If you are 17 years old, you may vote in any primary associated with a general election that will occur after that individual turns 182).

 

Voter Registration Deadline

In the state of North Carolina, the deadline to register to vote in North Carolina is 25 days before the date of an election. The applicant who is registering to vote in North Carolina must make sure their application is received by the applicant’s county boards of elections by this date.1
