The History of Shelton

Before you relocate to our community, it’s important to become more familiar with your future neighborhood. The city of Shelton is the 26th largest community in the entire state of Connecticut. Our area was originally the stomping ground for the Paugussett tribe. These settlers were hunters and gatherers that were heavily involved in agriculture. They referred to the banks of Housatonic River as a Pootatuck.

The borough of Shelton was established in 1882 and became an official city In 1919. The town of Huntington also voted to become incorporated in Shelton as well. The factories of Shelton relied on immigrants for labor jobs, which resulted in its rising popularity among immigrants. Economic and social ties brought Huntington and Shelton together.

1. Jones Family Farms

The Jones Family Farms is definitely worth checking out. For over 150 years, the Jones Family Farms have provided our community with fresh produce. You can find this wonderful attraction in the White Hills of Shelton. They have 400 acres of land with Christmas trees, blueberries, strawberries, pumpkins and more.

The farm also manages 10 acres of grapes for their winery, which features a wide variety of reds, whites, rosé, fruit and dessert wines.
