How to Organize Your Closet in 4 Painless Steps

The occasional flower that manages to sneak past the white foliage of winter, reminds us that the cold weather is (finally) on its way out. As spring slowly but surely creeps up on us, we all are forced to come face to face with the fact that the inevitable has occurred: spring cleaning is upon us. But this year you can shelve that feeling of stress because All My Sons Moving & Storage has created a list of ways to organize perhaps the most daunting task on your spring cleaning list: your closet. Procrastinators can finally let out a collective sigh of relief because these tips will make de-cluttering your home a breeze.

1. Toss It. The first step in finally reaching the goal of having a perfectly organized closet is to weed out the items that serve no purpose for you anymore. If you find yourself having a hard time parting with any of your beloved wardrobe, then ask yourself the following questions while sorting through your closet: Have I worn this in the past two years? Is this item my current size? Would I buy this item today? If you answered no to any of the above questions, then it is time to say farewell to those items.

2. Hang It. More often than not, if you cannot physically see the clothes, then you do not think to wear it. With that in mind, if you are lucky enough to have enough room to hang all of your clothes - then hang them. That way you will actually be able to see what you have and cut down on the amount of time you spend getting ready in the morning.

3. Organize It. If you cannot hang all of your clothes (most people can't), then opt for folding everything so that they do not lose their shape. For sweaters, fold them and organize them according to color code and weight - you can even use dividers or cubbies to make it easier. When it comes to your jeans, an efficient way to organize them is by folding them and sorting them by color as well. And as for your heels, try placing them with the right shoe toe out, and the left shoe heel out, so that you can make planning your outfit that much easier. Voila!

4. Unpack It. Remember to never leave your dresses hanging in their dry cleaning bags. Full of chemicals, these bags ruin the fibers of your clothing and cause irreparable damage. Do yourself a favor and unpack them as soon as you get them home. As far as purses go, it is best to keep them out of their dust bags - that way you can actually see what you have. And if you have items such as hats that need to be stored in hat boxes, then take a photo of each hat and paste it on the outside of each box, so you know exactly which hat is in which box.
