Keep in touch with old friends

It is always difficult to say goodbye, but just because you leave one area for another doesn’t mean you lose all connections and need to start having the moving blues. Keep in touch with your friends through phone calls, video chats, or arrange to meet up for lunch or an activity. The familiar voices of those you are close with will help you feel better.

Visit family

There is nothing quite like being with family. If you moved far away from your family, schedule a trip for them to visit your new area. Having those who you love most in your new town will provide a strong support system and encourage you to find ways to enjoy your new area.  Visiting family will keep you from feeling the moving blues, since you will still get to spend time with the ones you love.

Meet new People

There are plenty of ways to meet new people. Join a club, volunteer, take a cooking class, look up local events on Facebook, go to happy hour with coworkers, and be open to chat with strangers. You can also get into the habit of regularly attending your favorite bar, book store, coffee shop, or restaurant and you’ll be sure to meet people.

Try one new thing each week

Challenge yourself to try one new thing a week. This can help you familiarize yourself with your area, meet new people, and find places that you enjoy.

Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to give cope with moving blues. It’s the perfect way to give back to your community, feel a sense of purpose, brighten your mood, and meet people in your neighborhood.

Exercise

Exercise is a great way to blow off steam, and it spikes a rush of endorphins (feel good chemicals) in your brain that will enhance your mood! Try joining a local gym, or going for walks, runs, or hikes outside.
