Getting the Family Involved In Your Move

It is time to move and all you can think about is how much you have to pack and get ready for. Not only do you have to pack up the households belongings you have to pack your families too. In my experience most families try to move during the summer or winter breaks from the kid’s school; that way it does not interrupt them too much. Since moving is stressful for parents, imagine how stressful it can be for young children and even teens. Not only are they moving households they could potentially be moving to Dallas to start a new life.

Labeling the boxes can be fun too. Take them to a dollar store, craft store or teacher supply store and let them pick out fun stickers that they can put on the boxes to represent it is theirs. They can also pick out other stickers to help mark the boxes for the rest of the house. Remember you are not limited to colors, shapes or themes. But it can be fun to get food stickers for the kitchen, pet stickers for your pets things, flowers or frilly ones for the girls and trucks or sports for the boys. Keep in mind this is supposed to be a fun way to get the kids involved and keep them interested in their move to Dallas. Have them place the stickers in the same area on each box in a visible area so that when moving day arrives it is easy for the movers to see. You will be amazed at how quickly this will help your move go if all boxes are clearly labeled and ready to go. If you have time you can have them create their labels out of construction or colored paper.

If you happen to have older kids or teenagers you can get them involved using the same techniques or maybe a simple promise of a night out on their new town. Take them out to see a movie, go to the mall or out to eat at a local popular eatery. Try being creative, Dallas is a fun town for all ages. Museums, theme parks, theatres, plays, sport complexes or school groups. You can put fun facts about moving to Dallas on the boxes and as they pack they can learn about their new home.
