Thousands of students in the Tulsa area take the Tulsa County school bus system to get to and from class each day, due to working parents and conflicting schedules. Here at the Tulsa movers, we want to make sure your child stays safe and that they know some of the safety rules associated with riding the big yellow school bus.
The school bus is a great way to get your kid reliably transported to school. However, there is also an element of danger to the area surrounding a school bus, also known as the “Danger Zone” where children are most susceptible to accidents. Children are advised to stay at least 10 feet away from the buses to ensure that the drivers can see them.
Parents should advise children to slow down when approaching the bus, as many kids run and don’t look for oncoming traffic when getting on or off of the bus. This err can be lethal. An average of 33 children are killed each year by bus-related traffic accidents.
Here in Tulsa, we care deeply about the well-being of our residents. Let’s make the 2011-2012 school year a safe one, and remind kids frequently to look both ways before entering the road, to keep a safe distance from oncoming traffic, and do always stay in the crosswalks.
