When it comes to moving, no one looks forward to packing. It is one of those things on your to-do list that you put off as long as you can. It reminds me of when I used to eat dinner and was forced to eat my vegetables. I would eat everything else on the plate and attempt to push that off on my sibling or when no one was looking I would head to the trash.
However, we all know that in order to move to a new home you must pack. I think a large degree of the anxiety comes from all of those items you’ve acquired over the last year(s) that you’re now forced to confront. Those things you’ve tucked away in the attic, or loaded in the garage and even moved to storage. It’s like you can hear the horror music playing in the background and they’re all coming to get you. Hilarious! On a serious note, you must come to terms with the arduous task of packing, so you can complete your moving process. Now the question is will you do the packing or leave it to the moving professionals? If you’re like me you desperately want to save money anyway possible. So you would be on the do it yourself sided. Let’s look at what’s involved in do it yourself packing.
For one you will need packing supplies. Some individuals attempt to secure boxes and wrapping materials by scouring neighborhood grocers, and recycling outdated newspapers. While this works for some, it may not for others. I’ve been successful at it, but it also takes a lot of time. The easiest thing to do is secure all of your packing materials from your moving company. They have all of the materials you need, and you don’t have to worry about them breaking down on you. Once you secure the packing supplies you need for your move, then you can begin packing.
The best way to pack is to tackle one room at a time. There are several videos online that provide you with a step by step guide to packing. Take a look at them. Make certain you properly label your items. This will help your mover identify what boxes should go where on the truck and help with placement in your new home. It’s really not that hard to pack and allow movers to do the rest, however it does take time.
Now for those of you who don’t have time to pack, or would just rather opt to have your movers do it. Ask your prospective moving company to come by and give you an in-home estimate. When they arrive just simply explain you’d like a quote with full packing. They will know exactly what to do. And honestly that’s it. Once you decide on the moving company that works best for you and your family, simply relax and wait for moving day. So whether you’re packing or leaving it to the moving professionals, don’t put it off too long. The sooner you address it, the easier it will be to focus on your new home.
