How To Plan A Move

There are many reasons why you may have decided it’s time for a move.  You may need a bigger home for your growing family or you may need to downsize after the kids have moved out or to save money.  You may even be looking to relocate to another part of the country due to a job change.  Whatever your reasons for moving on, the process of planning and executing a move can be exhausting.  The key to making your move as stress free as possible is proper planning.  With a little bit of preparation, you may be able to move onto your next adventure without the headaches associated with a hasty or disorganized move.

Start your move by making a list of every task that needs to be accomplished.  Be specific and try to keep line items organized by matter of importance.  Be as thorough as possible and add every task that you can think of.  For example, instead of simply writing down “change address,” write down several different specific tasks such as “change address with post office” and “change address with magazine subscriptions.”  Not only will this help you not to forget anything but it can help you feel like you are getting things accomplished as you mark off tasks one by one.  In addition, take into consideration the needs of everyone in your household.  Don’t forget to make arrangements for children and pets during what can be a very stressful and hectic time.

The next step is to prepare for the actual move day.  You’re going to need as much help as possible so find and hire San Antonio movers to handle the actual packing and lifting.  While hiring professional movers will cost you money, their services can be vital for making moving day successful.  The extra costs may be well worth the amount of time, energy, and strain on your back you can save.

Once your moving day is planned and ready, take some time to get to household chores you have been putting off.  Pull off dirty furniture slipcovers and give them a good washing.  Dust and clean drapery and rugs.  Instead of folding up a dingy shower curtain, scrub it down with a good cleaning solution and dry it thoroughly before packing.  Finally, bring bedding to the cleaners so that they’ll be fresh and clean when you make your bed in your new home.  Your new home should be a fresh start, so don’t bring dirty, dusty fabrics and furniture in to it.

Another great opportunity that moving affords is to clear out unwanted or unused items.  Before the San Antonio movers arrive, take time to go through all of your drawers, closets, and cabinets to decide what you really need to bring with you.  You don’t want to spend extra money moving unwanted items that you’ll get rid of once you start to unpack.  If you have items that are still in good condition, consider donating them to charity.  Otherwise, arrange for the disposal of junk and other unwanted objects.

Once you have planned and prepared for your move, you can get excited about the future.  With everything organized and prepared, you can look forward to a smooth and organized move and a great start to the next step in your life.
