Tips for Packing Your Kitchen

Moving to Phoenix locally or long distance can be stressful and tiring. Of course, there is always the excitement of having a new home, new room, and new kitchen! The not so fun part of moving is getting everything together to go into your new place. To quickly get your new house in order and to feel like home, there are several steps to take in between, such as packing and arranging the move. Most people think that packing can be put off until the last minute and done quickly. Wrong, oh so wrong! Packing your home and especially your kitchen should be handled with time and care. Start packing early to ensure all your items make it to their new home safely!

Packing your kitchen can be one of the most tedious and yet crucial items of your move. From your fine china to your appliances, there are many items in your kitchen that require special attention. That is why we have put together a guide to help make your packing experience simpler.

When moving to Phoenix or any other location for that matter, it is important to give yourself ample packing time and to start off with the biggest items in your kitchen. Appliances are possibly the most important items, since if they become damaged, it can cost you a pretty penny to replace them. Pack your appliances into their original boxes if you have them or use appropriate packing supplies. Use boxes that are relatively thick to support the weight of your appliances and wrap your appliance in bubble wrap. This will keep your item protected throughout the trip. As a mover pro tip, disassemble the different components of your appliances and wrap them separately to further ensure their safety.

Fine China and dinnerware are quite common when packing your kitchen. When packing these items, using the appropriate packing supplies and methods can make a huge difference. Ideally, we recommend using packing supplies that are designed for plates and bowls, however if you cannot find these, look for durable and thick cardboard boxes to support the weight. At the bottom of the box, place a layer of bubble wrap to create a foundation for your dinnerware. Wrap each plate and bowl before placing it in the box. Stack your items, but refrain from filling up too much space as this could make the box very heavy and difficult to move later. After packing your box, fill in any empty holes with newspaper to avoid the items from moving too much.

Packing your food can also be a bit tricky, but follow these steps and you’ll have a semi stocked pantry when you arrive at your new home! Start off by throwing out any expired or undesired food in order to preserve space. When packing food, we recommend using plastic containers instead of cardboard boxes. This will protect against any spills. Next, if you have containers for cereal and pasta, packing those with a bit of padding is fine. If there’s any glassware food, be sure to place those items in a separate container with added layers of newspaper. We hope these tips for packing your kitchen help make your next move a bit easier!
