Orange County Public Schools Numbering 15 of the 20 largest public school districts in the United States, Orange County Public School System had an enrollment of almost 176,000 last year.
Community Partners have a substantial impact on Orange County Schools & Students are thankful

S.T.A.R.S. (Supplies to Assist ouR Students) teams with businesses and Disney’s VoluntEARS to provide backpacks for students Look what happens when you combine a vision with support and assistance from businesses, community groups and our largest corporate citizen in Central Florida: 13,000 happy students who received new backpacks filled with school supplies!

Supplies To Assist ouR Students (S.T.A.R.S.) is an organization made up totally of volunteers who work tirelessly to help students in West Orange County’s public schools start each school year with needed supplies.

A Walt Disney World Cast Member was moved when he heard about S.T.A.R.S., he organized other Disney VoluntEARS who wanted to help. More than 586,000 supplies – about $235,000 worth – to help S.T.A.R.S. and A Gift for Teaching was raised and contributed by Disney staff members. Walt Disney World donated 5,000 backpacks that the VoluntEARS filled and delivered to the S.T.A.R.S. distribution location.

S.T.A.R.S.' mission is to coordinate community efforts so that every child can start the school year with basic supplies,” explained a spokesperson. “I truly believe that we have the resources here in Central Florida to provide backpacks and supplies to every child in need, not just in West Orange County, but county-wide. Partnerships where civic organizations, churches or businesses ‘adopt’ a grade level or part of a school can result in incredible benefits in the lives of our children and our communities.”

“Thousands of our students thrive because of the exceptional generosity of individual, corporate and community support. When these groups come together, the effect they can achieve is powerful.”

Orange County Public Schools is extremely grateful to Walt Disney World, the Disney VoluntEARS, and S.T.A.R.S. for the wonderful start they provide to so many of our students.

The vision of Orlando Public Schools is to be the top producer of successful students in the  nation.

Support from the Orange County community, business partners, involved parents and interested citizens is essential, and here are some examples of how it happens:

• We have more than 35,000 registered volunteers who contribute at least 920,000 hours annually.
• We have 2,600 partnership agreements with businesses.
• PTA/PTSA memberships total more than 38,600.
• Community members are part of the School Advisory Council at each of our schools, along with parents and school staff.

• Volunteer experts in construction, engineering, finance and auditing sit on the Citizens’ Oversight and Value Engineering Committee (COVE) to oversee the district’s immense school construction projects.

Orange County Public Schools is a powerful, positive force in the economy. We’re the second largest employer in Central Florida with almost 23,400 employees and more than 176,000 students. Our operating budget is almost $1.48 billion, and our capital budget is $1.66 billion.

Our generous community is to be commended for the opportunities provided to our students. Working together, we will ensure a strong future for the entire Central Florida region.
