In case thereis still a shred of doubt as to whether or not moving into a Raleigh dorm isthe right move for you, here is a list of reasons that will help convince youotherwise.
You're not alone. That pang of nervousness you feel about leaving home for the first time and having to live with someone you have never met before? Great news, chances are your new roommate (and 98% of the freshman population) feel the exact same way. Moving into a dorm will instantly give you countless amounts of new friends. And chances are, they all feel the same way as you do.
Thumbs up to saving money! Most dorms are substantially cheaper than renting an apartment or townhouse off campus. Not only that, but chances are if you live on campus then you will not need to rely on a car to get you to and from your classes. So basically, all that money you save on campus living, gas, and car insurance equals more money for Taco Tuesday. Cha ching!
Start small. Moving into a campus dorm will help the move seem less overwhelming. Suddenly Raleigh will become less of a huge and intimidating city and more of a manageable small community. This will give you more time to focus on things like switching your major from “undecided” to a more specific school and on figuring out just how many meals one can cook in a microwave. Oh, and did we mention Taco Tuesday already?
Taco Tuesday. Living in a dorm on campus usually allows you to take advantage of the ever-convenient meal plan. Not only are most campus cafeteria's within walking distance (and if you get really lucky, sometimes next door) but this eliminates the stress of having to grocery shop on a college student budget. Most meal plans are significantly cheaper than dining out at restaurants and stocking up on groceries on a weekly basis. Plus, having a meal plan means you do not have to worry about cooking. Or cleaning. Or having to eat ramen noodles on days that end in -y (unless you want to). Win!
Toga! Toga! Toga! Living in a dorm means you will most likely live within walking distance of all those recreational facilities you heard about during orientation. You won't have to worry about finding a parking spot every time you want to take advantage of the student gym or more importantly make your debut at your first toga party.
