MSN gives examples: Minnesota qualifies for rebates on clothes washers, dishwashers, freezers and refrigerators, but Indiana residents get cash back only on heating and air-conditioning systems.

The amount of money you get back per appliance is also different in each state. In Texas for example, a new freezer can get consumers a rebate of $180, but in Minnesota, consumers will only get $100. However, in both states consumer can get additional money if the old model is recycled.

You also have to verify when the program starts in the state you live in. For example Florida, Texas and Tennessee are holding out until April to coincide with Earth Day. States like Oregon, Connecticut, Wisconsin and New Jersey are hoping to start the program right away.
