Moving A Piano, Pool Table Or Antique Item?

Spring cleaning has just about come to an end for most.  Many individuals are moving into summer rearranging.  Yes, out with the old and in with the new.  The cleaning is done, now it’s time to send your piano to storage, grandmother’s antique armoire to your daughter or give your dad’s pool table to your son.  While this may sound like a simple process, it’s not unless you hire experienced movers.

Moving pool tables, antiques and pianos can be somewhat difficult.  Often times we attempt to do the move ourselves.  However, although it may be small in nature it requires a skilled mover who understands what it takes to successfully relocate your family heirloom.

Take for instance moving a piano.  A piano move needs to be done by certified piano movers.  A certified piano mover will have the necessary moving equipment to ensure the piano is secure for the entire move.  It’s not ok just to ask if a moving company can move your piano.  They need to be certified piano movers to make certain your valued item will not be damaged in the process.  There are certain tools used by certified piano movers that an amateur mover will not possess.

It’s the same for moving your precious antiques, or regulation size pool table.  These items require skilled movers who have the tools and supplies necessary to guarantee a safe delivery for your specialty item. In many instances there are special fees associated with each move, as well as moving minimums since its generally one or two items you’re moving.  However, the safety and assurance you get with an experienced mover far outweighs the cost.  There is no guarantee that your treasured item will arrive safely with an inexperienced mover.  Piano moves, antique moves and pool table moves are intricate.

So, when you call and get a quote for your piano move, make sure you make them aware of the type of piano (i.e. spinet, upright, baby grand, grand etc) you’re moving.  With your antiques specify the type and shape so they can determine if crating in addition to quilt pad wrapping is necessary.  Also if you’re moving a pool table, note if its regulation size.  All of this information is crucial to you being given an accurate moving quote.  Location of the item is essential as well.  Technology is rather helpful.  Send a picture of the piece your moving.  Is the item being moved from the second or first floor?  All of this information helps the mover determine the number of men for the moving crew and moving equipment needed to ensure a successful loading and unloading.  Note some items may require harnessing to certain areas.  Some movers no longer perform this option due to liability issues.  A good moving company will work out the best move arrangement with the best rate and maximum protection of your valuables.
