Mortgage Rates stay Low

According to an article on HousingWatch.com, mortgage rates will rise a lot slower than previously predicted. The new prediction, according to Freddie Mac’s latest Economic and Housing Outlook, now is that interest rates for 30-year, fixed home loans will average 5.6 % in the fourth quarter of 2010. That’s a big change from about two months ago when people were saying interest rates would rise to 6%.

The interest rates were expected to increase because the government ended the massive effort to keep them low during the financial panic. And now the private investors are taking over, pumping money into the mortgage market fast enough to replace the government dollars. For the week ending on March 18th, interest rates for 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged about 4.96% plus an origination fee of 0.7%.
