The Maryland Movers present Hagerstown, MD
Jonathan Hager, a German immigrant from Pennsylvania, founded
Hagerstown
in 1762. It’s Maryland’s sixth largest city and is nicknamed The Hub City because of its large number of railroads and roads. Because of its rich history in regards to the Civil War and a few companies that started out in the area, like Piedmont Airlines, Fairchild Aircraft and others. Today, countless companies have their headquarters in the city including Citigroup, Home Depot, Radio Shack, Sealy, Staples and more. Hagerstown Aviation Museum
that exhibits many of original aircrafts including the 1939 F24/UC-61c and the 1945 C-82A. There’s the Antietam National Battlefield (part of the National Register of Historic Places), which is a National Park Service protected area. It commemorates the American Civil War Battle of Antietam of 1862. The area features the battlefield site, a visitor center, a national military cemetery and a field hospital museum. A 30mn drive away, you’ll find other battlefields such as Gettysburg, Monocacy and Harpers Ferry.
The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Park are located in Hagerstown. The United States Government bought the abandoned canal in 1938 and had it restored. Today the park receives more than 3 million visitors every year. There are six different visitors centers a different locations along the canal including Georgetown, Great Falls Tavern, Brunswick, Williamsport, Hancock and Cumberland. There are interpretive exhibits, canal boats, people can hike, bike and enjoy the Potomac River.
Hagerstown is also home to the Maryland Theatre, the
Maryland Symphony Orchestra
and the Miss Maryland USA Beauty Pageants. The traditional dinner theatre, the Washington County Playhouse is always great fun too. It’s presently featuring “How to succeed in business without really trying” with a menu of salad bar, whipped potatoes, spinach soufflee, beef pot roast, roasted turkey and more.
Downtown Hagerstown showcases several events throughout the year. Downtown Live boasting live reggae music and rock.
