Unusual Planned Communities
These days, people are living everywhere from apartment buildings to single-family homes in a cul-de-sac to suburbs and downtown to planned communities. Planned communities have the feel of small town charm and offer camaraderie between the neighbors. For some the social aspect of planned communities is unparalleled. Some planned communities have perks that other residential areas don’t have, like club houses, pools, tennis and volleyball courts, fitness centers and more.
Take for example, the town of
Celebration, Florida
that offers a planned community environment with 3,500 residences. It was inspired by Disney’s 1966 dream for an experimental prototype community. The town center is in candy colors and boasts year-round events for the families that live there. There are shops, schools, hospitals and businesses all around the community. In this town, there’s limited political signage during elections and there are rules regarding lawn plants.
The community of Ave Maria in Naples, Florida offers 11,000 homes spanning over 5,000 acres around Ave Maria University. There are restaurants, a K-12 prep school, a grocery store, bank, post office, a golf course and baseball fields.
Some communities have rules about who can move in, like the
Villages in central Florida
which has 80,000 residents. The retirement community requires that one member of each and every household is at least 56 years old. The rules also forbid anyone under the age of 19 to live there or even visit for more than 3 weeks. Residents there enjoy getting around in golf carts, love to dance and play mah-jongg. Homes here cost from $150,000 to $1 million.
