Foreclosures Reach All-Time High

According to RealtyTrac, in the month of August banks set a new record for home seizures by foreclosing on 95,364 US properties. The Jacksonville movers found out that’s 2% higher than the previous peak of 93,777 bank seizures in May, just two months before. In August, home repossessions were up 3% from July and up 25% from last year during that same time.

These homes are landing in foreclosure auctions which in August was up 9% from July. There are also default notices hitting 96,469 properties that same month but were down 1% if compared to July and down 30% from last year during the same time.

Overall one in every 381 housing units was in foreclosure filing the Jacksonville movers found out, up 4% from July and down 5% from last year. The states leading in foreclosures are still Nevada, Florida, Arizona and California, but foreclosures are down year-over-year in each one of these states. Nevada has one in every 84 housing unit receiving a foreclosure filing in August which is 4.5 times the national average. One in every 155 units in Florida is receiving a foreclosure filing for a total of 56,877 Florida properties in August. And Arizona is at one in every 165 units, down 7% from August 2009.
