The Houston Community College System serves most of Houston and is the fourth-largest community college system in the United States. Houston is also home to two of four public law schools in Texas, the University of Houston Law Center and Thurgood Marshall School of Law. The University of Houston Law Center also ranked in at No. 60 of the "Top 100 Law Schools" in 2007. South Texas College of Law is the city's oldest law school founded in 1923 and has one of the nation's top programs for trial advocacy. The Houston area is also home to more than 300 private schools. Many of these are accredited by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission.

Houston is home to many Fortune 500 Companies including ConocoPhillips, Halliburton, Continental Airlines, and Reliant Energy. With five of the six major energy companies maintaining a large base of operations in Houston (international headquarters of ConocoPhillips; US operational headquarters of Exxon-Mobil; US headquarters for international companies Shell Oil (US subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell), and British Petroleum), it is no wonder that Houston is a city with a healthy business climate for companies and local workforce. Chevron also has offices in Houston in a recently acquired forty-story building.

Houston’s two commercial airports served 52 million passengers in 2007. George Bush Intercontinental Airport was the ninth busiest in the United States for total passengers and seventeenth busiest worldwide. Bush Intercontinental currently ranks third in the United States for non-stop domestic and international service. With airports that large it is very easy to fly anywhere you need to go! It is also very easy to fly clients into town for those important business meetings. The Port of Houston ranks first in the United States in international waterborne tonnage handled and second in total cargo tonnage handled!
