Coming in April, the annual Buc Days festival will take place in Corpus Christi, TX. This year, the Buc Days are celebrating the 73rd annual event. For those of you unfamiliar with Buc Days, it’s basically a big festive celebration with entertainment, cultural events, and educational promotion for the Coastal Bend. In fact, the event’s proceeds benefit that Buccaneer Commission Scholarship fund, an organization that subsequently provides scholarship prizes for students in the area.
Each year, three local boys and three local girls win scholarship money to attend the Texas A&M Corpus Christi campus. Prizes range from $20,000 for first place, to $5,000 for second and $2,500 for third. The winners are chosen through a series of contests and events. Additional monetary awards are given for an array of other teams and contests as well.
The Buccaneer Days celebrates the heritage of the Gulf Coast and Coastal Bend area, with strong influences from Spanish conquistadors and pirates such as Jean Lafitte. You can check out the official website to learn more about the specific events and dates.
