Things to Know About Corpus Christi

Moving to Corpus Christi is a life changing decision, no matter where you are moving from. It is a beach town like no other, and has a culture of its own. There are three things that are absolutely necessary when it comes to moving to Corpus Christi; a pair of flip flops, a bathing suit, and an appetite for some good South Texas Tex-Mex cooking. Living in Corpus is a blessing and a curse at the same time. The curse lies in the climate. Texas is infamous for its heat, and Corpus is no exception to that. During the summer Corpus can see temperatures upwards of 100 degrees for days at a time. These heat spells are not the most fun, but being so far south means that winters are quite mild. There are pretty much two seasons in Corpus. Summer and January. It can get chilly, maybe even down to freezing a day or two out of the winter, but overall winters tend to be very mild. One thing that many people do not realize is that Corpus is always windy. It is rare for a Corpus Christian to see a day without wind. Other than the heat and the wind, the climate is tropical and mild.

The blessing comes in every other aspect of Corpus Christi. Being 20 minutes from the beach means that a lot of time is spent there. Some people don’t go to the beach very often, and they are typically the odd man out. Going to the beach is something that most people in Corpus do quite regularly. In Corpus you can drive on the beach. So this means that people are out there at all times of the day. Some people are on the water before the sun goes up to go fishing, while others are out there late at night having bonfires with a group of close friends. No matter what your preference is, you can find something to do on the beach. When you can simply load up the truck and go, it’s a great way to spend some quality time with the ones you love.

Another thing that is amazing about Corpus is the food. You cannot find food like it anywhere else. Whataburger, a fast food restaurant, was founded in Corpus. It is truly a Texas gem. Other than Whataburger, Mexican and Tex-Mex food are plentiful. Being within three hours of Mexico, the Mexican population is quite large. This means that the Corpus culture is highly influenced by the Mexican culture, in all of the most incredible ways. Corpus has a very laid-back atmosphere, very go with the flow. It is relaxing and a breath of fresh air. Most people are very family oriented, and have close knit families. And then there is the food. Fresh tortillas, homemade lemonade and horchata, tacos every morning for breakfast, you name it and Corpus has it.

And then you have geography. In Corpus Christi, you can get anywhere in town within 15 minutes, unless there’s traffic. Then make it 20. San Antonio is about two hours away, Houston is about three hours away, and Austin is about four hours away. Three major Texas cities within a short drive. Moving to Texas is a life changing decision that can change your life in the most positive ways.
