Baltimore Brings Out the Charm
Few East Coast cities hold a sense of pride quite like Baltimore, Maryland. An independent
city since 1851, Charm City is rich in history and culture. From battling the British
to withstanding natural disasters, Baltimore’s victorious spirit continues to motivate
growth and development throughout Baltimore. As your local moving company, All My
Sons would like to introduce you to this Maryland city.
The War of 1812 brought attacks on Baltimore’s Fort McHenry after the British had
burned Washington D.C. In the Battle of Baltimore, the British army’s attempts to
overtake what they considered a “nest of Pirates” failed miserably. American forces
repelled the British on both land and sea to emerge victorious. Almost two centuries
later, Baltimore would face another difficult foe. In 2003, Hurricane Isabel propelled
twenty feet of water into the Fells Point community and the Inner Harbor area, flooding
neighborhoods, the Baltimore World Trade Center, and the
sports center ESPN Zone.
Turning disaster into opportunity, Baltimore used the rebuilding momentum to initiate
a city-wide development and renovation campaign that is grabbing the attention of
individuals and families curious to explore what living in Baltimore is all about.
This major building spree is sweeping through the downtown area, with much attention
on the Inner Harbor East district. What once was a graveyard of abandoned, infested
warehouses and rotting piers is quickly becoming the city’s center for upscale dining,
trendy nightlife venues, and a retail paradise. The Baltimore Convention Center
was renovated and expanded in 1996, bringing visitors and retailers to the area
to enjoy Harborplace and the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland’s largest
tourist destination. With the MLB’s Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards
and the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium, the downtown area is the
top choice for newcomers moving to Baltimore.
To accommodate the throngs of eager new faces, Baltimore has big plans for several
towering additions to its beautiful skyline. Included is 717 foot tall 10Inner Harbor,
a building that will house luxury condominiums, a hotel, and several restaurants
and shopping venues. If life in the thick of downtown isn’t your cup of tea, try
the lively neighborhoods of Federal Hill and Canton. Either way, our local movers
can take you to the perfect place when you move to Baltimore.
