The Austin Movers’ Overview of the Highland Lakes

If your family likes the great outdoors, Austin, Texas might be right for you. The Highland Lakes of central Texas encompass a total of six lakes along the Colorado River starting 85 miles northwest of Austin and ending in Austin. These six lakes are known as Lake Buchanan, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls, Lake Travis and Lake Austin.

All My Sons of Austin movers learnt these lakes were created between the 1950s and 1970s, when six dams were built along the Colorado River to stop the flooding in the region. Lake Buchanan is 30 miles long with a shoreline of 124 miles. There are three towns close to it called Burnet, Kingsland and Llano. There are RV parks along the lake, bed and breakfast inns, cabins for rent as well as several cafes with Texas home cooking. There are wonderful recreational activities you can take part in as an Austin resident, from boating to biking and hiking along the lake, swimming fishing (famous for Striped Bass), sunbathing, wading and more.

If water skiing interests you, the Austin movers suggest you try the adventurous activity on Inks Lake. There’s also an Inks Lake State Park offering 1,200 acres of swimming, boating, hiking, bbq-ing, and even golf. You’ll even have the chance to catch a glimpse of a deer or two.

Lake LBJ is named after President Lyndon B. Johnson and also popular for water skiing. Many people from around Texas own vacation homes here and it’s also a great retirement area with plenty of communities from Sunrise Beach to Deer Haven and Horseshoe Bay.

Every August, Lake Marble Falls has the Lakefest Drag Boat Races popular with the Austin residents as well as the others in the area. There’s also the annual Cigarette Boat Race. The town of Marble Falls offers visitors lots of fun too. From great restaurants to charming cabins available for rent to lots of shopping. Marble Falls, Texas is filled with antique stores, gift shops and more.
