Tourism Returns as an Economy Booster for Atlanta

As families are managing through the economy struggles of the past few years, many are looking to travel to nearby destinations or opt to stay within their state for “staycations.” Thanks to this, cities like Atlanta (a city offering major attractions in the South) has seen a boost in the travel and tourism industry. With theme parks like Six Flags over Georgia and kitschy day trips like the Duck Boats at Stone Mountain, there is plenty of fun for the whole family in The Big Peach.

Many college kids decide to come to Atlanta, which we have tons of experience with here at the Atlanta movers. With several institutions of higher education such as Emory and Georgia Tech, Georgia State University and several others, the influx of young professionals and students each year is tremendous. Clearly, there must be plenty to do to keep everyone entertained! And of course, trips to campus and parents coming to visit play a part in the Atlanta tourism as well.

Business travel, international travel, and leisure travel are all up since 2009. Despite its location nestled deep in the South, Atlanta is a sprawling metropolis comprised of 28 counties throughout the entire metropolitan area. Last year, the population was well over 5 million.

Hopefully, 2011 continues on the upward trend and will top the $11 billion spent by tourists visiting Atlanta in 2010.
